ILLY ACQUIRES AMBASSADOR CHEFS AND A NEW ART COLLECTION

The sales points of Illy caffè, a world leading player on the market for quality coffee, are presenting the new Art Collection signed by Marc Quinn, the London-based artist famous for his emotionally and visually impacting works depicting human beings and their relationship with nature and the question of beauty. By working on the iconic Illy coffee cup designed by Matteo Thun in 1991, Quinn picks up from his Iris series – the collection of paintings on circular canvases reproducing the iris of the human eye – to create six variations on the theme: an authentic interplay of exchanged looks between the observer and the multicoloured shapes printed on the saucer, which reflect each other on the surface of the cup. Caffè Illy’s CEO Massimo Pogliani has commented ‘With Marc Quinn our coffee has been placed at the centre of a brightly coloured iris, like a pupil curiously observing the surrounding world in order to familiarize with it and be seen at the same time. The shiny surface of the cup mirrors the countless reflections that stimulate the eye, just as our unique aroma stimulates the wits and the palate. A marriage between beauty and taste artfully interpreted by one of the most original artists of our times’. However, in the meantime, Illy is also engaged elsewhere, intent on consolidating the ‘Chef Ambassador’ project aimed at effectively experimenting the perfect coffee blend. To date, thirteen starred chefs, from Italy and elsewhere, have been selected by the company, comprising our own Claudio Sadler, Gianluca Morelli, Luigi Taglienti and Niko Romito, Wicky Geunes from Belgium and Gaggan Anand from India. They are all testimonials of a unique flavour for pairing with dishes, contexts and atmospheres, for promoting the tradition, quality and innovation of Illy within Italy or on the various continents.
